We serve children and families in Indiana and beyond.
As Indiana’s largest and most comprehensive healthcare network for children, Riley at IU Health is committed to using our resources to serve communities. Our world revolves around improving health for children through primary and subspecialty healthcare, advocacy, research and education.
Community service begins with advanced care.
Delivering world-class healthcare for children connects us with families in communities where our healthcare providers and donors make a difference for children. We are Indiana’s only nationally ranked children’s hospital, recognized for excellence in 10 categories of specialized care.
Our reputation as a national leader in children’s health draws families from around the state and across the globe. We give children access to innovative treatment options made possible through pediatric health research. This level of care is only available at academic health centers like the one formed by Riley at IU Health and the Indiana University School of Medicine.
We improve the health of children through education and outreach.
Improving children’s health takes us outside the walls of Riley at IU Health and into communities, where we can spread knowledge about how to avoid illness and stay healthy. You can learn more about our impact on communities by exploring our latest community benefit report.
Here are a few examples of the educational programs we support.
Riley at IU Health School Program. This K-12 program offers individual and small-group tutoring for children admitted to the hospital for long-term treatment or requiring repeated hospitalization.
Safety stores. Injuries are the leading cause of death for children after they reach the age of 1. Our safety stores promote child safety through the sale of products such as bath, electrical and fire safety items as well as locks and latches.
PE Without Boundaries. This physical education curriculum for middle school and high school students encourages a healthy, active lifestyle. It was designed through a collaboration between Indianapolis Public Schools and Indiana University Health and is offered at no charge to all physical education teachers.
Playworks. IU Health is the Indianapolis founding partner of Playworks®, a program recognized by parents, educators and policymakers as a positive influence on children's health and well-being and school environments. The program uses play to enhance classroom learning, build teamwork skills and encourage kids to be physically active. It also aims to decrease bullying and shorten transition time to learning.
